How
did the Association start?
The CNAV began from a small rural communities conference held in Omeo in October 2003. At this conference there was a panel on community newspapers. Those on the panel decided that it was important for community newspapers to have an association to help bring them together. A small group of people from Gippsland then started to plan the formation of the CNAV. The first step was a very successful conference on community newspapers held at Monash University Gippsland campus in November 2004. It was resolved by participants that an association for community-owned newspapers was warranted. A working party was established to investigate options for the establishment of such an association, to develop a draft concept constitution and to establish a timeline for its formation and incorporation. The CNAV was formed on 16 July 2005 at Borderlands, Hawthorn, with a committee of management elected. The constitution of the association was formulated and adopted in 2005. The constitution was amended at the AGM in November 2006. The association has since become an incorporated body. |
